Breast Implant Replacement

Breast implants are very durable but not lifetime devices. Replacement is done when there is a medical issue or a patient wish—not automatically after a set number of years. Common reasons include:

• Capsular contracture (hard, painful capsule, visible distortion)
• Rupture/leakage or marked loss of shape/gel integrity
• Position problems (malposition, bottoming-out, double bubble, rotation of anatomical implants)
• Rippling/visible edges with thin soft tissue
• Change in desired size/shape, e.g., after pregnancy/weight change
